FAQs

Q: Do you take insurance?

A: Yes! I am credentialed with several insurance companies in Hawai'i. These companies are: HMSA PPO/HMO, HMSA Quest, Kaiser Hawai'i, UHA, and HMAA pending. You may be responsible for making a co-payment at the time of service, depending on your plan. Please check with your insurance plan for details. â€‹

Q: Do you take insurance from other states?

A: Yes. If you are a located in Hawai'i, Washington, or Arizona and have a Blue Cross/Blue Shield plan from one of these or a different state, I should be a covered in-network provider, but please confirm with them to be sure. For Washington Apple Health (Medicaid) patients, I am in process of credentialing with Community Health Plan of Washington, as well.

Q: What if you don't take my insurance?

A: I am happy to provide you with a Statement or a Superbill for your FSA or insurance. Some insurance plans may reimburse the vast majority of my fees back to you. If I do not take your insurance, you are responsible for full payment at time of service. You can pay by credit card via autopay on my secure HIPAA compliant portal, this includes using your FSA credit card.

Q: Where are you licensed?

A: I am currently licensed in the States of Hawai'i, Arizona, and Washington State. I am in process of licensure in California as well. Which means that if you are physically in either Hawai'i, Arizona, Washington, or California, I can work with you regardless of where I am at the time of service.

Q: Do you have an office or see patients in person?

A: At this time, I only provide services through a HIPAA compliant video platform.

Q: What is psychotherapy?

A: Psychotherapy is sometimes known as "talk therapy" where a therapist or psychologist helps the patient  understand thought and behavior patterns in hopes of helping the patient change these patterns to decrease distress.

Q: How long will I have to be in therapy for?

A: The length of treatment may vary. For targeted health behaviors, sometimes as few as 4 sessions may be enough. For other issues one may need more. Typically, changes are noticed within 12-14 sessions, though all issues may not be resolved. For people focusing on deeper life-long issues, longer term therapy may be warranted.

Q: What types of therapy do you do?

A: I am trained in multiple treatments for trauma: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Written Exposure Therapy (WET), and EAGALA Equine Assisted Therapy (EAT). I am also trained in other evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), CBT for Insomnia (CBTi), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Problem Solving Therapy (PST), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and others. I also often incorporate mindfulness meditation into our work together, regardless of the modality. I am also certified in smoking cessation

Q: What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

A: Cancellation policy is at least 24 hours notice. In order to be respectful of my time and that of other patients who were not able to schedule in your appointment slot, if you cancel with less than 24 hours notice, you will be subject to a late-cancel fee of up to the full appointment fee.
